Aluminium production up in this fiscal year

New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) The production of aluminium metal in the country in April and May 2006 has been estimated at 1,86,231 tonnes against the target of 1,83,229 tonnes.

Of this, public sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) produced 60,202 tonnes and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO), which has 49 per cent Central Government equity, accounted for 47,995 tonnes, an official spokesman said here today.

Private sector Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) produced 71,661 tonnes and Madras Aluminium Company Ltd (MALCO) 6,373 tonnes.

NALCO sold 59,773 tonnes of alumina/hydrate and exported 7,028 tonnes of aluminium during May. The total production of aluminium by these companies in May 2006 was 93,555 tonnes as against a target of 94,136 tonnes.
