Sharath Kamal bows out of Chile Open
Santiago, July 2 (UNI) Achanta Sharath Kamal lost a fiercely fought match to fourth seed Petr Korbel of Czech Replubic and bowed out of the Chile Open Table Tennis Tournament here.
The 24 year-old from Chennai, who became the first indian to enter the semi-final of an ITTF Pro Tour event in Brazil Open last week, tested the higher rated opponent and took the Czech to seven games only to go down 8-11, 11-9, 2-11, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 6-11 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Korbel later admitted that the 148-ranked Indian played well.
''He's a good player, he's hard to play against and he played well; in the rallies he was very good,'' said Korbel.
With Sharath Kamal's exit, India ended their campaign in the tournament. Subhajit Saha and Soumyadeep Roy had already lost in the second round.
In the women's section also Poulomi Ghatak and Kasturi Chakravarthy had already exited from the tournament.
