Seven hurt as car crashes into Berlin "Fan Mile"

BERLIN, July 2 (Reuters) A car crashed through security barriers around the ''Fan Mile'' in central Berlin where soccer fans have been gathering to watch World Cup matches, police said today, adding seven people had suffered slight injuries.

It was unclear whether it was an accident and the identity of the driver was not known, a police spokeswoman said. The car was a Volkswagen Polo with Berlin registration plates, she added.

The incident took place next to the Brandenburg Gate in the centre of the German capital where the ''Fan Mile'' main stage is located. There are no matches being played today.
