Right to Information, a social responsibility : Minister

Ranchi, Jul 2 (UNI) Jharkhand Finance Minister Raghubar Das today said Right to Information not only a right but a social responsibility too.

Speaking at a seminar on RTI here, Mr Das stresed on the need of public awareness and added the government initiated steps to implement the law but people should be equally alert on their right.

He said through the law, the government was committed to bringing transparency and expressed his annoyance at the attitude of bureaucracy.

Expressing his views on bureaucratic system in the state he said now-a-days bureaucrats had become Lok Swami (owner) instead of being a Lok Sevak (public servant).

He hoped that transparecy in work would also check corruption.

He also appealed to media and ngos to come forward and join hands saying government alone could not do for successful implementation of the act.
