Political parties for specific quota Bill in Monsoon Session

New Delhi, July 2 (UNI) Stepping up their campaign, several political parties today demanded that a specific Bill for implementing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions be passed in the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning July 24.

At a National Seminar on Social Justice to OBCs, organised by the Pattali Makkal Katch (PMK), representatives of various parties also sought reservation in the private sector, the judiciary and the media as well from next year.

''Talks of increasing seats and insfrastructure in educational institutions is only a ploy to postpone the reservation. The legislation should be brought in in the Monsoon Session itself,'' PMK founder president S Ramadoss said.

Former Prime Minister V P Singh said reservation should not be done in instalments, but in one go and immediately.

''Seats could be doubled, but it should not be a precondition for implementing the quota,'' he said and suggested that the number of seats could be increased from next year.

Mr Singh favoured a referendum on all aspects of reservation, to settle the issue by the people once and for all.

JD(U) President Sharad Yadav said the corporate world should also implement the government policy on quota as it took as all benefits and subsidies from the government.
