One killed in poll violence in Guntur
Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, July 2 (UNI) One person was killed and ten others were injured in a Congress-TDP clash during polling for panchayat raj bodies at Kaneparru village in Guntur district today.
The District Administration sources said that polling was stopped as tension prevailed in the village.
In Donepudi village, police fired inthe air to disperse boisterous TDP and Congress supporters.
Till at 1500 hrs, 57 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.
In eight other villages, polling was stopped as bombs were hurled by the rivals against each other.
In the 250 naxal-infested villages, despite heavy police presence, polling was sluggish. Maoists had given a poll Boycott call.
In Tadikonda MPTC, polling was stopped as symbols on the ballot papers were incorrectly printed.
At Lakarajupalli village, a police Sub-Inspector was allegedly roughed up by Congress supporters.
Ballot boxes were snatched at Chunduru village and ink was deposited in ballot boxes in three places, the sources added.
