Mulayam honouring Ayodhya demolition leaders: Cong
Lucknow, July 2 (UNI) Congress today alleged the Mulayam Singh Yadav government was honouring some Ayodhya demolition leaders on the pretext of giving honorarium to emergency detenues in Uttar Pradesh.
''We have specific information that some RSS and BJP leaders, who had led the mob in the demolition of the disputed structure on December 6, 1992 figure in the list of MISA and DIR detenues to be honoured by UP as Loktrantrik Senani,'' Congress legislature party leader Pramod Tiwari claimed here.
Demanding a special session of UP assembly over the issue, Mr Tiwari maintained the Samajwadi Party goverment cleared the air on the matter in the assembly and offer unconditional apology to the masses for its ''wrong doings.'' Condemning the ''honouring'' of RSS and BJP leaders by the state government, the Congress leader observed it was an insult to freedom fighters by terming the Ayodhya demolition leaders as Loktrantrik Senani (democratic fighters).
He said the participation of NDA convenor George Fernandes in the emergency detenues conference here on June 26 along with Mr Yadav proved the SP was coming closer to BJP and Mr Fernandes was acting as a 'bridge' between the two.
Raising another issue of non-holding of urban local bodies polls in UP even after Supreme Court's directive, the Congress leader said since the government feared debacle in the elections, ''it is violating constitutional norms.'' Earlier, the SC had asked the state government to hold the local bodies poll by June 30.
