Mobile justice delivery system working fast in Bihar

Patna, July 2 (UNI) The Mobile Justice Delivery System (MJDS), launched by President A P J Abdul Kalam last year, has brought a lot of solace to the people for its speedy justice system, a senior law official today said.

Since its launching on December 30 last, the MJDS has so far disposed off over 18,000 cases in the past six months, Bihar's Advocate General P.K.Shahi said. ''After Gujarat, Bihar had introduced MJDS, which is helping in minimising the pendency of legal disputes,'' he said, adding the MJDS solved the disputes through arbitration and consultation outside the courts in 14 districts.

He said the Chief Justice of Patna High Court had decided to set up the MJDS to provide speedy justice to the people at their doorsteps. The MJDS had prevented people from facing unnecessary harassments, who were forced to move court to get justice, he added.

Travelling in a bus, the MJDS, headed by a retired judge, has a lawyer, a law student, a social worker and an assistant in the team, which after hearing the matter, delivers the judgement. It has disposed off about 800 legal disputes in Vaishali district in four days from June 26.

Majority of the cases solved by the MJDS were related to mutation, land disputes, petty offences, nuisance at public places, simple assault, loan settlements and civil cases. Mr Shahi said.
