MMTC lone bidder in Bangladesh sugar tender

DHAKA, July 2 (Reuters) State-owned MMTC Limited was the only bidder in a Bangladesh tender to import 12,500 tonnes of white sugar, offering a price of 4.95 per tonne, an official said on Sunday.

The tender was issued by state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), and MMTC made the offer on a cost-and-freight and deferred payment basis, the official said.

TCB will announce its decision on the tender soon, he said.

On June 28 Indian firms V.K. Udyog and LMJ international both made a similar offer of 9 per tonne in another TCB tender to buy 25,000 tonnes of white sugar.

TCB has issued separate tenders to import 25,000 tonnes of white sugar in each of two tenders due to close on July 5 and July 10 respectively.
