MLAs, MLCs to monitor poverty alleviation programmes: Modi
Patna, July 2 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today announced that the state government would empower MLAs and MLCs irrespective of their party affiliations to monitor implementation of the poverty alleviation programmes periodically.
Speaking at a seminar on 'Role of People's Represensatives in poverty eradication and development of agriculture,' organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Mr Modi said the government officials were reluctant to share information with the MLAs or MLCs on poverty alleviation programmes and implementation.
He said the state government would participate in mandatory meetings to be convened for monitoring implementation of poverty alleviation programmes from block to district levels.
He deplored that the 'crisis of implementation' existed in the state.
He said such meetings would be held in every two or three months, adding the government would make announcements in this regard in the next few months.
Mr Modi said poverty could not be eradicated until the dignity of labour was fully acknowledged.
He said the jobs should be offered to the poor to increase their purchasing power and job opportunities should be created outside the government sector.
He said the government would repeal all such acts which had no significance in the present and would enact 'people-friendly' laws instead.
He said the previous governments did not give proper attention to infrastructure development like roads or electricity.
