Deep Depression over Orissa coast triggers heavy rains

Bhubaneswar, July 2 (UNI) Yesterday's well marked low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal off Orissa coast and Gangetic West Bengal further intensified into a deep depression today and lay centered at 250 kms south east of Balasore.

Meteorological sources here said the deep depression is likely to intensify further and move in west and north westerly direction and cross north Orissa adjoining West Bengal between Paradip and Digha by tomorrow morning.

Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rain will occur at few places and extremely heavy rains at isolated places over Orissa during the next 48 hours.

The fishermen had been advised not to venture into the open sea during the next 48 hours as the sea would be very rough. The local cautionary signal warning number three had been hoisted in all the ports in Orissa.

Met sources said during the period squally weather with wind speed over 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Orissa coast.

Meanwhile, several parts of coastal Orissa including the state capital, today witnessed heavy rains throwing normal life out of gear.
