Cong on poll mode in UP: To forge poll pacts with parties
Lucknow, Jul 2 (UNI) A day after announcing new district and city presidents, Uttar Pradesh Congress today went on full poll mode and announced three-month long agitational programme against the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
The party will also release ''final chargesheet'' against the misrule of the Samajwadi Party-led regime in UP, apart from a film titled 'UP Nama: Kya Khoya, Kya Paya' to ''narrate the misdeeds of the UP government.'' Congress also announced to forge poll pacts with small like minded parties, who are opposed to the present regime.
Though, Congress is still not sure which parties they are likely to join hands with, its leaders hinted soft stand towards former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh-led Jan Dal, which also includes cine star Raj Babbar.
Addressing a news conference here, UP Congress president Salman Khurshid said the party had chalked up a series of programmes in view of the coming assembly elections.
''We have sought time from AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi along with other senior leaders to attend a series of programmes in UP between July and September,'' he informed.
He said efforts were on to forge poll alliance with small like minded parties, and did not rule out pact with Jan Dal saying all the decision would be taken by the party central command.
''Mid-July, Congress will release the final chargesheet against the Mulayam government, while 'UP Nama: Kya Khoya, Kya Paya' would be shown all over the state.'' Claiming the new state executive council members and the UP governing council office bearers would be announced soon, Mr Khurshid said youth had been given more responsibilities in form of district and city president posts.
''It is natural that some people are offended by the new list, but it was prepared in consultation with all senior leaders and approval from the central leadership,'' he underlined.
Congress is holding the first meeting of the new district and city presidents here on July 8, where outgoing presidents have also been invited.
Meanwhile, Congress in charge of UP Ashok Ghelot would review the performance of eight sector in charges selected by Rahul Gandhi during training camps here on July 4.
