BJP to agitate against price hike
Bhopal, Jul 2 (UNI) The BJP's Madhya Pradesh unit will launch a statewide fortnight-long agitation from August 15 against spiralling prices courtesy ''erroneous policies'' of the Centre's UPA regime.
''A proposal in this regard was passed unanimously. Various programmes will be organised at block level,'' state BJP President Satyanarayan Jatia said while briefing the press on decisions taken at a two-day state executive meeting that concluded here today.
The gathering discussed the party's role, in contemporary circumstances, vis-a-vis the Madhya Pradesh government. Direct communication with workers was emphasised in view of the state's changing political perspective.
''As a BJP government holds sway in the state, we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities towards getting rid of the public's problems. However, the policies of the UPA regime led to the spurt in prices of food products, fuel and construction material,'' Mr Jatia added.
A proposal, tabled by General Secretary Maya Singh, said fuel prices were hiked no less than seven times since the UPA assumed the reins.
''Under the leadership of the then premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the NDA government made supply of food products easier. Now, long queues are observed in front of ration shops,'' said the proposal which was approved by former Union minister Faggan Singh Kulaste.
