55 per cent votes polled in second phase polls
Hyderabad, July 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary G N Rao today said 55 per cent votes were polled in the second phase of Panchayat elections conducted in eleven districts in the State.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the SEC had received the information that 55 per cent votes were polled till 1500 hrs.
The voting percentage would reach 60 to 65 per cent after the final reports from the districts came tonight, he added.
Mr Rao said 65.45 per cent voters had exercised thier franchise in the first phase of elections held on June 28.
Stating that re-polling would be conducted in 38 polling booths, he said it would be held at 16 polling booths in Guntur district, 10 in Mahaboob Nagar, five in Srikakulam, three in Chitoor, two in Ranga Reddy and repoll would be conducted in Nellore and Guntur.
The SEC has issued orders to conduct repolling in Guntur.
Re-poll orders will be issued to other centres after receiving total information from the districts.
He said the second phase poll was being conducted peacefully, except a few major incidents in Guntur district and minor incidents in other districts.
Stating that the police have taken action in 435 election-related incidents, he said 73 persons were injured and 62 persons arrested during the elections. One polling person was injured in the poll violence and 73 cognizable cases relating to election were booked, he added.
