Wife axed to death for dowry by husband

Rourkela, Jul 1(UNI) A tribal today surrendered before the police after killing his wife.

Police said one Mohan Chandra Mahato of Samaradari village under Lahunipada police station of Sundergarh District had killed his wife Rebati Mahato with an axe and surrendered himself at Lahunipada police station.

The police have rushed to Samaradari village to seize the body and send it for Post mortem.

Although Mohan claimed that he killed killed Rebati due to her alleged illicit affairs with some one else, the villagers described it to be a case of dowry murder.

They said Rebati's sister married a couple of months back and had been given a lot of materials as dowry, whereas, Rebati was not given anything during her marriage almost 15 years ago.

This prompted Mohan to demand dowry and the husband later axed to death his wife,villagers said.
