WI bowls out India for 200 in the first innings

Kingston, Jamaica, July 1 (UNI) Famed Indian batting line up surrendered meekly on a seam-friendly track as Jerome Taylor took a career-best haul of five for 50 to help the West Indies restrict the visitors for a paltry first innings total of 200 on the opening day of the fourth and final Test here at the Sabina Park.

But for Rahul Dravid' courageous 81 and Anil Kumble's gritty 45, the situation could have been much worse. Others lacked application, without exception, as India frittered away the advantage after winning toss.

Taylor's first five-wicket haul was ably assisted by Collin Collymore who took two wickets for 17.

On a Sabina Park pitch that has traditionally assisted fast bowling, Rahul Dravid chose to stick with a combination of two pacers and two spinners.

With the top guns up the order silenced in the first hour itself, it was left to Dravid to save India the blushes.

Captain courageous showed how to negotiate the bounce and movement in his patient 215 ball knock. But it was only Anil Kumble who learnt the lesson well and ably supported his skipper to bail India out when they looking down the barrel at 91 for six.

Kumble used all his experience to ward off the West Indian attack and also played some beautiful cuts and drives to keep the score board ticking.

Kumble was dismissed one hour after tea clean bowled by Bravo for 45 (101b, 7x4) but not before adding crucial 93 runs for seventh wicket with Dravid.

Rahul Dravid also departed after Kumble's loss, getting a thin edge off Collymore for 81.

If Rahul had added only 35 runs in the first two sessions, he was more fluent in the last adding 46 runs before he got out.

Taylor then removed S Sreesanth and Munaf Patel to bundle out the Indian innings.

Earlier, India made a disastrous start losing both the in-form openers out the first four overs.

Virender Sehwag tried to play a rising delivery on his ribs from Pedro Collins to the on side but only managed to lob an easy catch to Ramnaresh Sarwan at forward short leg.

Sehwag went for duck and India was 1 for 1.

V V S Laxman survive a scare next ball when his edge just fell short of Gayle at first slips.

Jerome Taylor bowled an express delivery that nipped back in and shattered the stumps of Jaffer to leave India tottering at 3 for two.

Laxman was again dropped in the 16th over by Lara off Collymore at a personal score of five. Even as the run rate was awfully slow -- the Indians added only eight runs in the first hour -- Dravid and Laxman ensured there were no more hiccups until lunch. MORE UNI XC DH MA KN1102
