UPA govt responsible for price hike: Buddhadeb

Barrackpore, July 1: The UPA government at the Centre is responsible for the hike of prices of essential commodities in the country, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has said.

Mr Bhattacharjee was addressing a public meeting at Khardah in North 24 Parganas prior to the sixth State conference of West Bengal Construction Workers Union.

''Wrong policies of the Centre led to immense suffering for the cultivators,'' he said.

The CPI (M) leader said the Centre should reconsider the agriculture and industrial policies.

''The Centre should change the agriculture and industrial policies. The interest of labourers should be protected in case of foreign direct investment,'' he said.
