ULFA demands Centre to implement promises made to PCG
Guwahati, JulY 1 (UNI) The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) today demanded that the Centre implement the assurances given to the People's ConsulTative Group (PCG) during the last round of talks.
ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa in a message lauded the members of the PCG, which was nominated by it to prepare ground for peace process, for showing sincerity in its efforts to facilitate direct peace talks between the outfit leaders and the Centre.
While praising the PCG and its members and noted litterateur Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami for their sincere efforts, Rajkhowa said '' We hope that the Centre will soon carry out what it had assured before the PCG to facilitate direct talks with the ULFA.'' This is for the first time the ULFA has formally reacted to the outcome of the third round of talks involving the Centre and the PCG held in New Delhi on June 22 .
After the third round of talks, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil had assured the PCG that the Centre would consider their request for releasing five senior jailed ULFA leaders, after consulting the Government of Asom.
The ULFA had demanded release of five jailed central executive leaders Pradip Gogoi, Bhimkanta Buragohain, Pranati Deka, Mithinga Daimary and Ramu Mech to enable it to take a decision about holding direct negotiations with the Central government.
