TDP activist killed by Maoist naxals in AP

Ongole, July 1 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activist Takkella Nageswara Rao from Marrivemula village of Prakasham district was shot dead and his brother Venkateswarlu beaten by Maoists today in front of their house.

According to sources, two years ago, Nageswara Rao, belonging to Pullalacheruvu Mandal was warned by naxals that he was acting as a police informer. Subsequently, he left Marrivemula village and was living in Vinukonda in Guntur district.

A fortnight ago he came back to Marrivemula and made attempts to join the Congress party. On receiving information that he was in the area, five Maoists came to his house in the early hours today, called him out and beat him. His brother Venkateswarlu came out of the house and requested them not to beat his brother. Venkateswarlu too was beaten up.

The naxals then shot Rajeswara Rao and he died on the spot.

Before fleeing they told Venkateswarlu that the government had to face the consequences for ''fake encounters'' in the state.
