Taylor cuts India to size

Kigston, July 1 (UNI) After showing initial sparks, Jerome Taylor appeared fading out from the scene due to injuries. However the 22-year-old, who wrecked havoc on Indian batsmen with his raw pace yesterday, sounded the reminder that he's back and raring to go.

Taylor, who grabbed a career-best five for 50 to limit India to 200 in their first innings yesterday, says he is physically fitter and mentally more quipped to survive in international cricket.

''To be honest, I'm stronger and I'm fitter both mentally and physically. I think I still have a far way to go, so you still have to keep on improving on your fitness and your strengths,'' Taylor said and thanked his team mates for supporting him.

He bowled with speed and control that evoked memories of the region's great men of pace. However, Taylor was quick to admit that the pitch assisted him.

''I was more in control of what I was doing, so I think that is what happened,'' Taylor said after the match.

''This pitch was offering more assistance, so you have to use up the pitch to the best of your ability... and the new ball as well.

We didn't want to waste the new ball, so we tried to bowl a fuller length after the ball was swinging,'' he added.

Captain Brain Lara also heaped rich praise over Taylor and saying that youngster was a promising bowler.

''I think Jerome Taylor deserves his success today, and we all knew that. When you look at his stats, it's not that impressive, but the guy is an outstanding youngster. I think today shows how much talent he has, and what a great prospect we have in the future,'' he said.
