Suburban status for Flying Ranee demanded

Thane, July 1 (UNI) The Thane unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has threatened to launch an agitation if the Railway Ministry failed to restore the ''suburban status'' for the Flying Ranee which was used by thousands of office-goers to travel between Dahanu and Mumbai.

BJP district unit chief Maneesha Chowdhary, addressing a press conference here today, said the Flying Ranee which halted at Dahanu and Palghar stations, was used by thousands of commuters to reach their place of work in Mumbai. The suburban season tickets bought by them was valid for the journey.

However, the Railways has now accorded superfast status to the train and declared that season tickets of the suburban section will not be valid in this train.

For thousands of commuters, who go to work in Mumbai from Dahanu and Palghar, this was the only convenient train and the Railway's decision will affect them adversely, she said.
