Sri Lanka seeks Indian help for e-auction system

Kolkata, Jul 01: Srilanka has sought Indian help for implementing e-auction system in their country, Tea Board chairman Basudeb Banerjee said today.

E-auction is working in South India and we have engaged NSE.IT for re-engineering the e-auction software for implementation in the whole country, he said.

Banerjee said Srilanka is asking for more concessions for exporting their orthodox variety tea to India.

Presently, under the Free Trade Agreement Srilanka pays 7.5 per cent duty for exporting up to 15 million kgs of tea to India.

The Tea Board will take the help of National Remote Sensing Agency for GIS mapping of tea gardens, he said.

Hoping for more government funds for the tea sector under the 11th five-year plan, the Tea Board chairman said an internal promotion with advertisement campaigns would be launched shortly.
