Shekhawat were Bihar legislators to become role models
Patna, July 1 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairo Singh Shekhawat today urged Bihar legislators to become role models by helping in eradicating poverty.
Inaugurating a seminar on 'Role of People's Representatives in the Poverty Eradication,' organised by Bihar Commonwealth Parliamentary Association here, Mr Shekhawat said the legislators had a major role to play in poverty eradication programmes and should be vigilant to ensure that no public money was wasted in implementing the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP).
He said people's cooperation was also required for successful implementation of the programmes launched by the Centre and the state government.
Listing different initiatives, including 'Antodaya', which was started by the Vice-President himself, he said he had seen of poverty during his school and college days.
After becoming the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, he tried to address various causes of poverty.
''Instead of chalking out poverty alleviation programmes in government offices, I interacted with members of the deprived sections directly asking them to suggest ways of improvement,'' Mr Shekhawat added.
