Seven awarded life imprisonment in Bengal

Berhampur, Jul 1 (UNI) A CPI(M) leader along with six others have been sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of a Congress activist in Murshidabad district.

Additional District Judge, Berhampur, Sourish Chakrabarty awarded the life sentence yesterday to the accused on charge of killing Congress activist Yasin Mondal at Baghirpara village in Nabagram on August 5, 1991, besides imposing a fine of Rs 5,000 each or extension of the period of imprisonment by six months for failing to pay the amount.

CPI(M) leader Hafizuddin Sheikh, former pradhan of Rasulpur gram panchayat, was among the convicted.
