Sanam wins, Sanaa loses in Wimbledon juniors

London, Jul 1 (UNI) Indian juniors got off to contrasting starts at the Wimbledon with eighth seed Sanam Singh registering a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 opening round victory over Venezuela's Roberto Maytin in the Boy's Singles but Sanaa Bhambri going down 1-6, 2-6 against second seed Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei in the Girl's Singles event here today.

Sanam did not have much trouble in beating his unheralded opponent as he dominated the match from start to finish.

Maytin found himself struggling against the eighth seed Indian and managed to win just one point in the opening set. The Venezuelan was broken several times as Sanam wrested the initiative from him.

The second set followed a similar pattern as Sanam went about stamping his authority over his opponent. The Indian wrapped up the proceedings after conceding just two points to Maytin.

However, in the Girl's Singles event Sanaa Bhambri proved to be no match for second seed Yung-Jan Chan and failed to get past the tough first hurdle. Sanaa was completely out of sorts and could win only one point in the first set to prevent a whitewash.

The Indian failed to recover from the initial shock and was beaten by the second seed Taipei player in straight sets.
