Real estate broker held

Chennai, Jul 1 (UNI) The Central Crime Branch (CCB) Police today arrested a real estate broker and are looking for his brother who allegedly cheated a jeweller of Rs 50 lakh in Sowcarpet area in the city.

Police said, Sengalvarayan gave Rs ten lakh and 5.5 kg of gold, totally valued at Rs 50 lakh, to real estate broker Ashokkumar and his brother Jeevakumar as advance for purchase of land at Alwarpet in the city.

However, niether did they finalise the transaction nor returned the advance to the jeweller despite his repeated requests.

The jeweller filed a complaint with the CCB police after which Ashokkumar was arrested. Jeevakumar was said to be absconding.

A local court remanded Ashokkumar to judicial custody, they said.
