Panchayat VP held

Kancheepuram, Jul 1 (UNI) Police have arrested a Village Panchayat Vice President here for alleged misappropriation of funds.

Following a direction from District Collector to look into complaints that Chithanakavur Village Panchayat President Devaraj and Vice President Thanikaivel had misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 3.29 lakh, the Uthiramerur police investigated the case and arrested Mr Thanikaivel last night.

He was produced before Chengalpattu Judicial Magistrate today and remanded to 15-day judicial custody.

He was later shifted to Chennai Central Prison.

Meanwhile, the police are on the look out for Mr Devaraj, who was absconding.
