MP to introduce Madgaskar technique for paddy
Bhopal, July 1 (UNI) The Madgaskar technique of increasing paddy productivity with less cost is being considered for introduction in Madhya Pradesh.
Through this technique, paddy production could be maximised using less volume of irrigation, fertilisers and pesticides along with the least use of seeds, experts at a workshop on the new method said here yesterday.
According to the new technique, paddy is cultivated by planting the saplings but it do not require the fields to be filled with water, as in the traditional way of farming. Root growth of the sapling planted under the new method is higher, Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University's paddy expert Rajesh Mishra said.
Of the total 48 districts in the state, 20 are major rice producing districts. Favourable geographical conditions for adopting Madgaskar technique exist in Balaghat, Seoni and Damoh districts, Agriculture Secretary R K Swai said.
While propagating the new technique, demonstration plots would be developed in the fields of farmers.
