Low pressure triggers heavy rains in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, July 1 (UNI) A well-marked low pressure over the north Bay of Bengal adjoining West Bengal and Orissa caused heavy rains at many places in Orissa.

Meteorological Centre here said the low pressure is likely to turn into a depression and bring more rains during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the holy city of Puri recorded 5 cms rainfall, followed by Bhubaneswar and Cuttack (2 cms each) during the last 24 hours.

Incessant rains lashed the capital city since this morning, affecting normal life. Several other coastal towns also witnessed heavy showers following the low pressure.

MET sources said moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers were likely at many places over Coastal Orissa and very heavy rains at isolated places might occur during the next 24 hours.
