King of Fruits comes from UP to treat palate of Bangaloreans

Bangalore, July 1 (UNI) Delicious varieties of the King of fruits, Mango, was launched in the city today under the brand name 'Nawab' by the Rajya Krishi Utpadan Mandi Parishad from Uttar Pradesh.

The Parishad displayed Dahehari, Langda and Chausa varieties at the Lal Bagh to treat the taste buds of Bangaloreans.

Speaking at the launch, Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board Managing Director G S Narayanaswamy said though the country accounted for 16 per cent of the world's total mango production, lack of marketing support, quality packaging and storage facilities stalled its farmers from exploiting the world market.

He said the country could make a strong foray into the international market by applying Gamma ray treatment to the nutritious and tasty fruit and adopting international standard packaging.

Parishad Deputy Director (Administration) Sahadev said the three varieties of UP mangoes would be available at major departmental stores and retail outlets. The mangoes had been packed by the Mandi Societies in Lucknow and Shaharanpur, he added.
