India calls for dialogue on Israeli soldier's abduction
New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) India today condemned the abduction of an Israeli soldier at Kerem Shalom crossing near Gaza on June 25 and gave a call for all sides to observe restraint and discuss the issue through a dialogue.
In an official statement, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said India was concerned that the situation in the region could escalate into a large-scale military conflict. "We believe that the release of the captured Israeli soldier would contribute to defusing the growing tension. The abduction had provoked massive retaliatory measures by Israel.
India, he said, condemned all acts of violence, provocative statements and actions, as well as threats and intimidation.
"India once again calls upon all sides to observe restraint, and re-open a dialogue, of which there have been some encouraging signs in recent days. It is our firm belief that a negotiated outcome of the long-standing conflict is the only way to ensure long-term peace, security and stability of the region,'' he said.
