Impasse over bamboo supply to HPC mills to be resolved
Guwahati, July 1: Supply of bamboo to the two units of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) in Asom is likely to be resumed within a few months with state Chief Secretary S Kabilan taking up the matter with the concerned parties.
In a meeting of the state government officials with representatives of the HPC, autonomous councils of North Cachar Hills and Karbi Anglong and the militant outfit UPDS, currently in ceasefire, yesterday at the state secretariat, ways to resolve the impasse were discussed, a release stated.
The HPC has two units in the state, the Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad and Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram in Haillkandi district.
Harvesting of bamboo from Karbi Anglong for the Jagiroad unit had to be stopped two years ago following objections raised by the UPDS.
It would be resumed from October, the meeting resolved.
For harvesting bamboo from N C Hills for the HPC's Panchgram unit, the HPC and the N C Hills Autonomous Council would meet to discuss and execute an agreement for finalization of revised rates and other terms and conditions within this month.
