Hyderabad CPI (M) leader dead

Hydereabad, Jul 1 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central Committee Member Koratala Satyanarayana passed away here this morning at his residence.

He was 83. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Mr Satyanarayan, who had been suffering from cancer for the last few months, was a former State CPI(M) Secretary and held various posts in the party.

Born in Pyaparru Village of Amruthaluru Mandal in Guntur District on September 24, 1923, Mr Satyanarayana was involved in the freedom movement before he joined the Communist Party in 1942.

He actively participated in all the agitations and movements held in Repalle, Baptla and Guntur. He was elected to the Assembly on Communist Party ticket from Vemuru Constituency in 1962.

After the Communist Party's split in 1964, he associated himself with the CPI(M) and became its Central Committee Member in 1985 and State Secretary in 1991.

He was also elected to Assembly from Repalle Constituency in 1978. Mr Satyanarayana travelled to China and Bulgaria to study the socio-economic conditions of the people in the countries.

He was the Chairman of Prajasakti Sahiti Samstha.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and other prominent leaders visited the departed leader's house and paid floral tributes.

State Secretary of the CPI(M) B V Raghavulu and TDP Senior Leader T Devender Goud also condoled the death of the CPI(M) leader.

The funeral would be held here on July 3 and prominent party leaders, including Sitaram Yechuri, would attend the funeral.
