HFI to send teams for various international tourneys
Chennai, July 1 (UNI) The Handball Federation of India (HFI) will send a under-16 boys and girls teams for the first Commonwealth Handball championship to be held at Zambia from August 22 to 30.
HFI General Secretary S M Bali told UNI here last evening that the Indian Senior men's team would be sent to the South Asian Handball championship to be held at Pakistan in September this year.
He said the Under 21 boys team would also be sent to Asian Handball Championship to be held at Hiroshima in Japan from August 22 to 30.
The HFI would send the senior teams for the Commonwealth Handball championship at Kochi in Kerala in November and the Asian games at Doha in Qatar.
For all these international events, a preparatory camp for men and women was being held at Patiala and Lucknow respectively, while junior girls camp was on in Chennai. The camps would end by July 7.
The second camp will commence from July 14 for Under 21 and Under 16 boys and girls at Imphal, while the camp for junior Girls would be conducted at Gujarat and for the Junior boys at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradersh,he added.
Mr Bali said the Girls sub-junior Nationals was allotted to Chattisgarh and the Beach Handball Championship for Senior men and women will be conducted by Puri in Orissa in September.
The National Handball Championship for Junior Boys will be held at Begusarai in Bihar from August 29 to September 4, and the National women handball championship will be held at Kolkatta from January 1 to 7 next year,he added.
He said the national handball championship for senior men will be held at Himachal Pradesh during the last week of January next and the Federation cup at Lucknow in February 2007.
