Ganja smuggler sentenced to 10 years RI
Vadodara, July 1 (UNI) A man was today sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs one lakh by a fast-track court here for his involvement in the smuggling of ''ganja'' worth over Rs 2.23 crore last year.
Sunil Jat a resident of Mandav of Haryana was convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, three other accused in the case -- Anil Kumar Jat, Samsad Ismael and Sayed Tahiruddin Mohammad -- were acquitted by additional sessions judge V J Mehta.
On April 6, 2005, the anti-narcotic wing intercepted a Maharashtra-bound truck at Ghawat Chowkdi near Karjan and seized 3750 kgs of ''ganja'' worth Rs 2.23 crore which was kept hidden under potato bags.
All the four travelling in the truck were arrested and put on trial. The truck was reportedly carrying the contraband to Maharashtra from Uttaranchal.
