Dreaded criminal, carrying 20,000 reward, killed in encounter

New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) Police shot dead a dreaded criminal, carrying a Rs 20,000 reward on him, in an encounter in neighbouring Noida this evening.

Dinesh Giri was shot dead in return fire by the police after he fired at the team which asked him to stop his car at Noida'S Sector 93 at about 1930 hrs, Joint Commissioner (Special Cell) told UNI.

''He was wanted in 34 cases, of which two recent ones were of land grabbing and extortion. A reward of Rs 20,000 had been announced on him by the Delhi Police.'' He was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared 'brought dead'. A .30 revolver was recovered from him, he said.

''Giri was hunted following the arrest of two of his 'colleagues' -- Shibu Pandit and Pawan -- this afternoon whose interrogation led to the police tracking his movement.'' UNI AN PK VV2118
