Coin melting 'factory' raided, 3 arrested
Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, July 1 (UNI) Police today arrested three people from Sihani Gate area here following raids at a factory involved in melting coins for commercial use.
While three workers were arrested in the raids conducted this afternoon, the main accused -- owner of the factory situated at Nand Gram under Sihani Gate police station, -- was absconding, according to sources.
The raid, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Mordia following a tip-off, resulted in the recovery of coins worth more than rupees 10 lakh in denomination of two rupee, one rupee and 50 paise coins.
Investigations revealed that the melted slabs, obtained after melting the coins as they are worth more than their face value, were sold in Delhi.
Hunt is on to nab the factory owner and ascertain the recepients of the 'slabs', according to the police.
