Cement cos slash rates for 'INDIRAMMA' housing scheme
Hyderabad, Jul 1 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cement Manufacturers Association today agreed to slash cement price for construction of houses under the state government's 'INDIRAMMA' programme leading to Rs 1,200 reduction in the total cost per house.
A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting between Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, association members and housing officials, an official release here said.
Thanking the cement companies for gesture, Dr Reddy said they had agreed to provide cement at Rs 145 a bag in Chittoor, Nellore, and East Godavari and at Rs 150 per bag in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam and at Rs 135 in 17 districts.
The present rate of cement in open market was around Rs 165 to 180 a bag.
Earlier, the companies agreed to provide 3.60 lakh ton of cement for the first quarter. Around 2.50 lakh ton were supplied and the balance would be supplied in a week.
Mr Reddy urged the housing officials to enter into an agreement with the manufacturers as per the decision taken at the meeting.
