BMC demolishes 21 shrines in Dadar-Mahim

Mumbai, July 1 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corpration (BMC) today demolished 21 illegal shrines in Dadar-Mahim area in Northcentral Mumbai.

''In wake of Bombay High Court's order to submit compliance reports in the court by July 20, in regard to illegal shrine which are obstructing pedestrians and road traffic, we have demolished 21 temples in the area of 29 illegal shrine in the ward, remaining eight would be demolished next week,'' Assistant Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Ashwin Khanolkar said.

Mr Khanolkar added that initially people came forward to protest against the demolition, but when that explained to them about High Court order they themselves supported it.
