Bhajan Lal keeps cards close on resignation issue

Chandigarh, July 1 (UNI) Former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, who put in his papers as the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president, today said he would not speak on the issue as it was an ''internal party matter''.

''It is a secret and an internal party matter,'' Mr Bhajan Lal told reporters at his Panchkula residence near here, when the media approached him to confirm his resignation as the HPCC chief.

''I will not speak on the issue,'' he added.

''This is a secret, I told you,'' he reiterated after being pressed by the mediapersons to give reasons for his resignation.

He even parried away the question whether he had resentment over the performance of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in the state.

Mr Bhajan Lal then just got up from his seat, avoiding any further question.

The Congress sources here said that the party high command could refuse to accept Mr Bhajan Lal's resignation and this was the reason for the Congress stalwart's silence on the matter before the media.
