Bangla illegal arms linked with Indian insurgents

Dhaka, July 1 (UNI) Bangladesh intelligence agents today detected links between three tribals arrested here with illegal arms and ammunition and Indian insurgent groups across the border.

Ashutosh Dibra, 45, Kobir Bazi, 25, and Bimol Murma, 30, who were arrested for possessing illegal weapons confessed to Bangladesh intelligent agents about their involvement with insurgents across the border like ULFA, UNB news agency reported quoting a source.

Another intelligence agency source said some eight Indian secessionist outfits are active along Bangladesh frontier of Sherpur, Nalitabari and Haluaghat in the greater Mymensingh district.

Local sources said earlier BDR had arrested a suspected member of a secessionist group Sushil Drong, from Haluaghat. Sushil managed a Bangladeshi passport concealing his identity. He is also an influential coal importer at Gobrakora port in Haluaghat.

The three arrested tribals reportedly confessed about their links with Sushil Drong.

Indian exporters had accused Sushil Drong of his involvement in kidnapping two Indian customs officials at Gachuapara port of India bordering Haluaghat frontier.

Following the request of the Indian authority, the BDR launched operations to flush out the secessionist groups.

BDR sector Commander Colonel Anisuzzaman told reporters that investigation is on to determine the source of the firearms apprehended in Haluaghat.
