Ambika wants involvement of people to spread reading habits
New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni today stressed the need for having a strong library movement backed by active involvement of public and private schools, voluntary agencies and the Panchayati Raj institutions to spread book reading habits among the people.
Addessing the office bearers of the Delhi Public School Society at the presentation ceremony of a set of over one thousand books on various subjects as donation to the Delhi Public Library, the minister appreciated the thoughtful gesture of Ms Suleena Sapra of the Delhi Public School Society for donating the books belonging to her late aunt Dr Kamla Chowdhary, a staunch Gandhian and a former visiting professor at the Harvard Business School holding many important positions. Her books will now be available to common masses through the Delhi Public Library ranged a variety of subjects -- Environment, Psychology, Social Forestry, World Watch Reports, Population, Women's issues and Rural Development.
Dr Chowdhary was a Member of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, a Founder Member of the IIM Ahmedabad, and the IRMA. Besides, she also served as Chairman of the National Wastelands Development Board.
