Amarinder rules out early assembly polls
Jalandhar, July 1(UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today ruled out possibility of early assembly elections and said the polls would be held as scheduled in February next year.
Talking to reporters here today, he ridiculed SAD leader and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's statement regarding early assembly polls. He said there was no no reason for advancing the elections.
Over the possibility of holding of elections on the basis of new delimitation of constituencies, as suggested by the Delimitation Commission, Mr Singh said the issue would be decided by the Election Commission or the Centre.
To a question about power shortage in the state, Mr Singh said that the state government was purchasing extra power worth Rs 25 crore daily from the Power Grid and all efforts were being made to tap other sources of power to narrow the gap between demand and supply.
