''Allow students to choose their own field of study''

Mumbai, July 1 (UNI) An educationist here has cautioned parents against forcing their wards to pursue education in a field which is not to their liking.

Dr Manju Nichani, Principal of the K C College here, while addressing a joint meeting of parents and students today, pointed out that when parents put pressure on their children after declaration of the results, it creates stress on the students who may then even be forced to take drastic steps like committing suicide.

Ms Nichani lamented the attitude of parents who wanted their wards to pursue studies only in medicine or engineering. There are so many other things which the students can do .... There are so many other courses which they can pursue and excel in, she pointed out.

She stressed the need to allow children the freedom to choose their own vocation. But, parents must keep a constant watch on their wards, she said.
