6 house collapse cases in city due to rains
Mumbai, July 1 (UNI) At least six cases of house collapses were reported from different parts of the city and its suburbs during the last 24 hours due to rains.
The wall of a room at a chawl near Bheemnagar slums on Jerbal Wadia road collapsed, while part of the balcony of a four-storeyed ''Crystal'' building on Sona Aiyyari Marg in Mahim also came down.
However, no one was injured in both these incidents.
At Ghatkopar (West), a compound wall of V M Pawar chawl on LBS road caved in upon three rooms in the chawl. The fourth incident was reported from Kurla (West) where a wall collapse incident occured in the Murli Milan Society. A wall collapse incident was also reported in the Gutamnagar Chawl at Chembur. There were no reports of any injuries in these incidents as well. Fire brigade sources reported the sixth incident of a wall collapsing at Adarsha Nagar, Aarey colony.
In all, 45 cases of trees uprooting were reported from the city and its suburbs.
Rains have been lashing the metropolis and its suburbs since yesterday.
According to the Meteorological department, the city and its adjoining areas will receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Goa regions will also experience heavy showers.
Meanwhile, the rainfall recorded at Colaba and Santacruz was 99.0 mm and 53.2 mm in last 24 hours ended at 0830 hrs today.
