Poll official suspended; repoll in one more booth
Hyderabad, June 30 (UNI) Announcing suspension of a poll official in Nalgonda district and repoll in one more polling station tomorrow in Prakasam District, the State Election Commission said an estimated 75 to 80 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise as the repoll in 56 polling stations in ten districts of Andhra Pradesh, amid tight security went off peacefully today.
Noting sizeable impersonation, the SEC ordered repoll in Kalluru in Kurichedu mandal as the number of tendered votes constituted more than two per cent of the total votes polled, SEC Secretary G N Rao told reporters here.
The ten polling booths in Nalgonda recorded a high 76 per cent, while the poll percentage was a low 67 per cent in Kadapa, he said.
As per the report of the Nalgonda District Collector, the Mandal parishad development officer K Satyamma of Devarakonda mandal had ''failed'' to discharge her poll duties as Assistant Returning Officer on the first phase of poll held on June 28, Mr Rao added.
''To act as a deterrence and to curb recurrence of such instances during the polling process, the SEC has asked the District Collector to place her under suspension,'' he informed.
A report from Rajahmundry said 73 per cent of the voters cast their votes as the polling was peaceful in the repoll in six polling stations in Yeleswaram mandal.
