PM arrives in Nagpur on 2-day tour of Vidarbha
Nagpur, June 30: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here this morning on a two-day visit to the Vidarbha region, where over 1600 indebted farmers have committed suicides in the last five years.
Later Mr Singh, accompanied by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Minister to PMO Prithviraj Chauhan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, flew to Dhamangaon in the Amravati district to meet the kin of the deceased farmers.
Mr Singh would review the situation by interacting with the farmers about their grievances.
As soon as he arrived at the airport, Mr Deshmukh, Mr Patil and other cabinet colleagues welcomed the Prime Minister .
Mr Singh will visit Sevagram later in the day and stay at Bapu Kutir and also visit Yaifal in Wardha district. Tomorrow, he will leave for Kolzari villege in Yavatmal district after a night halt in Nagpur.
