Newspaper employees court arrest

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) Newspaper employees today held a rally here and courted arrest while observing Press Unity Day.

The rally, organised by the Delhi Union of journalists in coordination with nine newspaper employees' unions, called for an immediate end to all unfair labour practices and curbs on freedom of press.

The protestors said they will intensify their action if the Delhi Government failed to take action to end mass retrenchment of employees in violation of the Industrial Disputes Act.

A delegation of the unions submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sheila Dikshit. demanding early action on their demands.
