Nearly 2000 cases affected due to indefinite strike in Jammu

Jammu, JunE 30 (UNI) The conecutive three days abstention of lawyers from the courts following their strike has affected nearly 2000 cases being heard in various courts in the whole Jammu region.

The Jammu Bar Association (JBA) has demanded the transfer of high profile sex scandal case registered and underway in Srinagar in which one advocate from Jammu is also booked to the winter capital of the state, and has called on both the central and state government to ensure that all those cases registyered against the security forces personnel shuld be transfer and tried out of the Jammu and Kashmir to ensure a fair trial.

The lawyers of High Court and lower court in Jammu went on indefinite strike on Wednesday against denial of right of defence and threat issued to lawyers in Srinagar while representing their clients.

''The way proceding are being conducted in Srinagar court and the threats extended to Jammu advocate to appearing in the court at Srinagar is not only frustating the judicial system but also amounts to shaking the confidence of common man in administration of justice,'' JBA president V R Wazir said.

The JBA requested to Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to ensure that advocates who have been engaged to defend their clients be provided adequate security.

In the notorious sex scandal, 15 people including two former ministers and sitting legislators, a former state Additional Advocate General, an former principal secratary to Chief Mininster and Border Security Force DIG have been charged sheeted by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) in Srinagar has declared that no lawyer would be allowed to appear in the court behalf of those arrested or charge sheeted in connection with the scandal.
