NACO distributes condoms to journalists

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) The government's zeal to prevent HIV/AIDS in the country was reflected today with National AIDS Control Organisation distributing condoms at a press conference here.

Surprised to find a pack of Moods alongwith press release, a journalist wanted know the purpose for distributing it.

''Its good that you have asked the question. We want to popularise use of condoms. It is just like a chloroquine tablet which people take to prevent malaria. Similiarly, condoms should be used to prevent spread of HIV/AIDS,'' NACO Director General Sujatha Rao replied.

She said that currently Rs 200 crore from the government's budget on HIV/AIDS prevention for 2006-07 is being used on condoms procurement and distribution in the country.
